What. The. Swear.
No, really. I'm going to have to watch this for the same reason no pilot can pass up a chance to buzz a really neat wreck.
Be seeing you.

 | 09:34 pm - Passing thought about Health Care Reform
Will a plan pass once it's crafted? Eh, maybe. Probably not with the single-payer option intact, or much consumer protection; these are the sticking points for the insurance industry, threatening what was last year an $11Bn USD profit margin. I imagine it'll get the same neutering that the American Clean Energy and Security Act got.
It really goes to re-election prospects for the individual legislators involved. Ergo: take the money or explain to the 72% of people who are for a public health option (Source: Washington Post) what the hell just happened.
Has Obama sacrified any chance at a second term over this? Oh, absolutely. The machinery behind the healthcare insurance industry is massive, bloated, and beyond scrutiny. There's a positively stupid amount of money to be had in keeping people sick, or denying claims coverage. As you can imagine, to keep that machinery in the dark, a lot of that money goes into lawmakers' pockets. And image consulting firms.
That money can be a powerful motivator... Do what you're told, if you're like Ron Kind, Max Baucus, or Tammy Baldwin, and the money will keep coming in. Or, Since democrats took control of Congress in 2006, health care industry donors have been giving more campaign cash to Democrats than Republicans. What wouldn't you do to get that power and influence back if you're like Paul Ryan or John Kline?

* "Industrial Power Users Group" has got to be the flimsiest front name for an organization I've heard in my life. Yeah, we get it. You don't want to meet any emissions guidelines at all, ever. If you haven't heard the radio spot, the scare ad is hillarious.
* Kentucky Grilled Chicken is just wrong on a cosmic level and should stop. Just...stop it.

The name of the man who owns the gun store-slash-range?
Ray Jihad.
That's just....so appropriate. It's like finding a dentist named Payne. Or the guy the used to send out to verify our mission readiness - Major Minor. It was a huge let-down when he was eventually promoted.
I never learned his first name. But I like to believe it was "Cole."

 | 02:16 pm - Poll Dancing
Well, I owe someone money, because I was fairly sure there was going to be some stunt pulled to suspend free elections before today.
Actually the wait at 0700 when the polls opened in my district was about what I expected. It was an hour's wait, very little trouble at all. Now, we just get to see if our votes count for anything, as a nation, or if it all comes down to being outvoted by dead people (again), or to who's promised what to Diebold. (*coughOhiocough*)
I'm not a pessimist. I have hope. I'm also a pragmatist with a looooong memory living in Dick Cheny's America.
EDIT: 14:30 And now I check the news, and it's starting.... Virginia Board of Elections tells Democrats the Election is Wednesday GOP Officials Trying to Disqualify Iowa Student Ballots Why, no, you're not allowed to vote in Virginia unless we're in a good mood...
Why so much hate in Virginia...?
EDIT: 15:00 In Ohio, some voters asking for a paper vote are being directed to cast "provisional ballots" instead. These won't necessarily be counted, and can get disqualified in the legal squabbles that follow a close contest. (Source: BBC)
EDIT: 18:55 Closer to home, machines at the University of Michigan Coliseum and Precinct 1, 4th Ward (South Quad) are not counting correctly - machine tabulation did not match paper trail according to poll workers. At least they looked...

Your result for Howard Gardner's Eight Types of Intelligence Test... Naturalistic
"This area has to do with nature, nurturing and relating information to one's natural surroundings. Those with it are said to have greater sensitivity to nature and their place within it, the ability to nurture and grow things, and greater ease in caring for, taming and interacting with animals. They may also be able to discern changes in weather or similar fluctuations in their natural surroundings. They are also good at recognizing and classifying different species.
'Naturalists' learn best when the subject involves collecting and analyzing, or is closely related to something prominent in nature; they also don't enjoy learning unfamiliar or seemingly useless subjects with little or no connections to nature. It is advised that naturalistic learners would learn more through being outside or in a kinesthetic way.
Careers which suit those with this intelligence include scientists, naturalists, conservationists, gardeners and farmers." (Wikipedia)
